Within the framework of the Strategy for Accelerated Growth and Shared Prosperity (SCAPP), whose main objective is to lead Mauritania to financial emergence by 2030, the BCI, which has a crucial role to play in financial inclusion and the massification of electronic means of payment, intends to make a mobile payment solution available to the population, by offering a legal tender electronic currency to satisfy the demand resulting from the decline in the use of cash in payment transactions.
In this way, the BCI will help to remove the obstacles that stand in the way of economic development, for which digitalization represents a lever that would clearly improve access to financial services, at affordable costs.
The BCI has therefore launched the BCI PAY project, which is part of the BNM's strategic plan for digital transformation, and aims to combat the massive use of cash at national level, support the financial inclusion strategy, and facilitate the Mauritanian population's transition from a cash solution to a new digital solution, while capitalizing on a strong, innovative brand.
In addition to guaranteeing security, the e-wallet ecosystem solution offered by BCI aims to facilitate access to basic financial services for unbanked populations, develop e-Commerce in Mauritania and the sub-region, and stimulate growth in employment and entrepreneurship.
